Mould wipes off ‘instantly’ with one household staple | Express.co.uk
To help you get rid of unwanted mould stains, a cleaning fanatic has shared her simple trick that whitens it ‘instantly’. Chantel Mila, known as Mama Mila on TikTok, revealed the tip amongst a list of hacks that will “change the way you clean your bathroom”.
Mould thrives in areas which are cold and damp that have minimal ventilation. Not getting rid of mould effectively can lead to a number of health issues, including respiratory problems. Mould forms when mould spores, which are naturally present in the environment, land on a surface and find a moist, warm environment with organic matter to grow.

Bathrooms are perfect breeding grounds for mould as they usually have high levels of condensation and humidity.
Spilt liquids can also contribute to the problem as they provide the necessary moisture the mould needs to develop.
To combat any unwanted mould, Chantel uses just one cleaning product to do the job. All you need is some hydrogen peroxide.
Chantel instructed: “Soak a cloth in hydrogen peroxide and place it on tough mould to whiten it instantly.”
She further explained that the cloth should be placed on any mould spots for 30 minutes to get rid of any stains.
Hydrogen peroxide hills mould by acting as oxidizing agent, releasing oxygen to help break down the mould’s cell structure, proteins, and DNA.
This effectively stops the mould’s growth, killing it. ICE Cleaning noted that using hydrogen peroxide to get rid of mould is popular as it doesn’t produce toxic fumes or a harmful residue, is inexpensive, and is easy to find.
However, it explained that it will only kill mould on hard surfaces, such as glass, counters and walls.

They wrote: “Mould on porous surfaces, like fabric, upholstered furniture, and wood is much harder to treat as it grows deep in the pores and can evade treatment.”
Although the surface-level mould may be sorted with hydrogen peroxide, ICE warned that it won’t be able to kill the mycotoxins, which are the harmful substances mould occasionally produces.
They explained: “As it is usually recommended you treat mould with hydrogen peroxide by spraying it on the affected area and scrubbing off the mould, it could make your mould problem worse.
"If mixed with another cleaning chemical, it can create very harmful substances, as well. Hydrogen peroxide and vinegar, for example, make peracetic acid which can irritate eyes, skin, and the respiratory system.
“It can even damage certain surfaces, like bleaching natural fabrics. You must remove all the hydrogen peroxide immediately after cleaning to protect your possessions.”
